Rapid RSV Testing

Suffering from respiratory symptoms?

Rapid RSV Testing is Here

With a swab of the nose, we can quickly test to see if you or your child has RSV.

Our provider will explain the results, answer your questions, and explain the next steps to treat the virus.

We use a rapid antigen test that has high accuracy, and the results are available in 15 minutes.

FAQs

What is this test?

The test checks the fluid from a nasal swab to see if it contains proteins from RSV called antigens. The antigens trigger your immune system to attack the virus.

What happens during an RSV test?

A healthcare professional will place a nasal swab up the nose to collect a sample. Tests should be done in the first few days of symptoms, as the amount of virus in your nose decreases over time. This could result in a less accurate test.

How long do results take?

The results of the rapid test take an hour or less and can be determined in the office during your visits.

Do I need anything to prepare for the test?

This is a simple, lowrisk test, and there is no special preparation for an RSV test.

About RSV

Respiratory syncytial virus is commonly known as RSV. It usually causes mild cold-like symptoms. Typically, people recover from it in a week or two. However, for infants, young children, and older adults, it can be much more serious.

RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in young children.

Symptoms

If you are infected with RSV, symptoms will appear within 4-6 days after infection. Symptoms appear in stages, and some people may not have all symptoms.

Symptoms include:

  • Runny nose
  • Decreased appetite
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Fever
