FAQs

What is this test?

This Point of Care test that measures two types of antibodies, COVID IgG and IgM.

COVID IgG is an antibody immune response to the COVID vaccine or past COVID infection. This antibody typically peaks 2 weeks after receiving the 2nd vaccination or 30 days after the onset of a COVID infection.

COVID IgM is an antibody immune response to a recent COVID infection.

Who can be tested?

You must be free of symptoms of COVID-19. To get the most accurate result, please come in at least two weeks after your final COVID vaccine, or 30 days after having had a COVID-19 infection.

How is a patient tested?

This is a blood test by finger stick. The test takes 15 minutes to run.

What does a positive COVID-19 antibody mean?

A positive result means it is highly likely someone is protected against COVID-19 but is not a 100% guarantee.

Is a person with COVID-19 antibodies contagious?

Even if someone has antibodies, it is possible they can still silently carry and transmit the virus. The vaccine protects really well against symptoms, and less well against asymptomatic carriage. Therefore, individuals should still wear masks and maintain social distancing even if they do have antibodies after the vaccine.

How long do COVID-19 antibodies last?

It is unclear how long the antibodies will remain in the system, so far though it appears that antibodies from vaccines last for at least several months.

How does the COVID vaccine do against future COVID variants?

Although the antibodies from the vaccines offer resistance against the strains that have previously circulated in the United States, it is possible these antibodies will offer less protection against future variants.
